Our History
The Institute of Field Robotics (FIBO) was established in 1995 during the 7th educational development plan. On April 11, 2003, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi reorganized the Center of Operation for Field Robotics Development into “Institute of Field Robotics”. FIBO researches, develops, and provides innovations that will benefit the society. The institute specializes in courses and degrees in robotics and automation. This is our history.
, Center of Operation for Field Robotics Development established by Dr. Djitt Laowattana with the mission to research and provide academic services
, Thai Robotic Society (TRS) established to support, promote, and share knowledge of robotics to the general public. TRS also built the network of researchers and scholars at higher education institutions that helps facilitate the development of robot technology in Thailand and various robotics competitions.
, The Center supported ABU ROBOT CONTEST, the first robot competition in Thailand for vocational training students and university students, which has been held annually til the present.
, The Center was reorganized into “Institute of Field Robotics”. FIBO researches, develops, and provides innovations that will benefit the society. The institute specializes in courses and degrees in robotics and automation.
, Master of Science Program in Robotics and Automation established. FIBO is the first institute to offer this type of program in Thailand.
, Master of Science Program in Development of Industrial Competitiveness established.
, Students in the first batch of Master of Science Program in Robotics and Automation graduated.
, Joint research center for HDD Advanced Manufacturing established to enhance academic strengths and fulfill commercial researches. The knowledge is used for the development of professionals in the educational and industrial sectors. Thailand can change from a manufacturing base to the country who specializes in HDD advanced manufacturing and remains as the biggest hard-disk drive exporter.
, FIBO led the team to deliver the strategy for the development of robotics and automation in Thailand (2008-2012)
, Doctor of Science Program in Robotics and Automation established.
, The 14th floor of Innovative Learning Institute to commemorate the 80th anniversary of King Rama IX, Thaicom Foundation, was used as a learning and teaching space.
, Development of Industrial Competitiveness program was revised and changed to Technopreneurship program.
, FIBO improved and updated the Master of Science Program and Doctor of Science Program in Robotics and Automation.
, The integrated dual degree program – Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering and Master’s Degree in Technopreneurship established.
, FIBO developed new program – Bachelor of Engineering Program in Robotics and Automation Engineering.
, Bachelor of Engineering Program in Robotics and Automation Engineering established. FIBO became the first institute in Thailand that offered full-scale robotics and automation teaching covering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.
, The new building completed, Basic Operation Building, Institute of Field Robotics.
, FIBO started the project to study the demands for professionals and technologies in robotics and automation in Thailand
, “20th Anniversary Professional Robot Maker Exhibition: Look Back at the Past and Head to the Future “, the exhibition celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of FIBO.
, FIBO supported the establishment of the Robotic Cluster. The Thai SI became Thai Automation & Robotics Association (TARA) and educational institutions agreed to establish the Center of Robotic Excellence (CoRE) to support technological development and innovation in robotics and automation systems in Thailand. FIBO also took an important role to develop human resources to support the Eastern Special Development Zone (EEC).
, FIBO developed the industrial technology roadmap for the center for research and innovation in automation, robotics and intelligent systems (ARIPOLIS), a sector in the Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation (EECi).
, “25th Anniversary: Robotics of Thailand, robotics for Thailand”, the exhibition celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of FIBO.
From past to present, FIBO has worked to earn a reputation for academic excellence and develop talented professionals and experts in robotics, automation and technopreneurship to support social and economic development of Thailand.
